Use Shellac Flakes to make fresh shellac – simply dissolve in methylated spirits. Shellac has a variety of uses. It may be used as a tough, natural primer, sanding sealer, tannin-blocker, odour blocker and high-gloss varnish. It is also an effective way to form a barrier on wood to prevent the bleeding of pigments into the final finish, or to prevent uneven finishes when wood staining. Can also be used as a protective coating for paintings, however it may yellow or crack over time.
